The Division of Neuroscience is the basic science wing of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The primary focus of this division is to investigate peripheral and central nervous system mechanisms that underlie acute, chronic and pathological pain.

The faculty of our division combine behavior, electrophysiology, pharmacology, immunocytochemistry and molecular biology to unravel the fundamental features of pain induction and control. The division is engaged in a number of collaborative projects with the faculty of the Departments of Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Therapeutics of the College of Medicine, with the Department of Physiological Sciences of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Whitney Laboratory and with other faculty within departments of the College of Dentistry.
