The UF Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences is located in the UF College of Dentistry on the UF Academic Health Center campus. Our clinics and services for oral medicine, oral pathology and oral radiology provide care, consultations and diagnostic services through a partnership between UF Health and the college.

Division of Oral Medicine
The OMDS Oral Medicine and Oncology Clinic offers consultation services to practitioners and patients with a variety of oral symptoms. Our oral medicine faculty teach oral medicine courses and are involved in a number of various research projects.

ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL DIAGNOSTIC SCIENCES
Division of Oral Pathology
The Oral Pathology Laboratory currently accessions more than 15,000 specimens annually, and provides a comprehensive, computerized service for processing and diagnosing oral biopsy and cytology specimens, while our Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Clinic is designed to provide care to patients with unusual or diagnostically challenging oral lesions or conditions.

Division of Oral Radiology
The Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Service offers a variety of radiographic and consultative services to practitioners. Dictated reports including findings, diagnostic impressions, and pertinent comments are returned to the referring practitioner for all procedures performed and for films submitted for review.

Oral Medicine Clinic Provides care to patients with unusual or diagnostically challenging oral lesions or conditions and oral problems associated with systemic diseases and concerns related to head and neck cancer.

Oral and Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences Research
Research in oral and maxillofacial diagnostic sciences takes on many different forms and facets within each division: oral medicine, oral pathology and oral radiology. The department also boasts the Center for Orphaned Autoimmune Disorders, or COAD, under Dr. Suenghee Cha.

OMDS ADVANCED EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Advanced Education in Pathology
The Advanced Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is 36 months in length and provides the required educational background for candidates to take the American Board of Oral Pathology certification examination. The program includes extensive didactic instruction and training in diagnostic pathology as a foundation for other aspects of the curriculum.

Advanced Education in Radiology
The Advanced Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology is a 30-month program that leads to a certificate of completion. The program consists of academic coursework, clinical training and research experience. Successful completion of the Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology program confers eligibility to challenge the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology examination.

Dr. Anita Gohel
After joining the faculty at the UF College of Dentistry in January 2020 as a clinical professor in radiology, Anita Gohel, B.D.S., Ph.D., was appointed chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences in 2022. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.
