The Advanced Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program offers a six-year residency/M.D. program. Our program maintains full accreditation by the American Dental Association’s Council on Dental Accreditation and follows the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons guidelines.
Training involves the full range and scope of the specialty, including dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, pre-prosthetic surgery, dental implants, facial aesthetic surgery, nerve reconstruction surgery, reconstructive surgery, benign and malignant pathology of the head and neck and craniofacial surgery. The program includes a minimum of 30 months of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Gainesville. In addition, there are three years of medical school at the University of Florida and one year of general surgery residency. All residents are eligible to sit for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery examination after successfully completing the program.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The program’s most recent accreditation visit from the Commission on Dental Accreditation was in 2021 and was approved without reporting requirements.
