Teaching Philosophy
As a dental educator, I strive to create a learning environment for my dental students that promotes collaboration, self-reflection, and compassion. One of the primary methods I accomplish this is through service-learning experiences, which takes students outside of the classroom walls and into communities throughout Alachua County that face high levels of dental disease and tremendous challenges in accessing oral health care. My experiential learning approach stimulates interest in preventive approaches to oral health care and encourages application of core concepts from basic, behavioral, and clinical sciences. My goal is to instill in students the value of service and the importance of community engagement for optimal patient outcomes.
Clinical Profile
I currently serve as the Director of Community-Based Outreach for the UFCD Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science, where I oversee clinical dental outreach programs in Alachua and Collier Counties, FL. The mission of these programs is to promote the oral health of vulnerable children through education and disease prevention. As part of these programs, I provide comprehensive dental care to pediatric patients of all ages and incorporate behavioral support to treat children with special health care needs.
