About Aria Eshraghi

Aria Eshraghi, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. His research focuses on bacterial pathogenesis, host–pathogen interactions, and the development of new strategies to prevent and treat bacterial infections, with a particular emphasis on Francisella.

Dr. Eshraghi’s laboratory integrates bacterial genetics, molecular microbiology, chemical biology, and animal models to investigate bacterial virulence and physiology. His group has contributed to understanding the Francisella Type VI secretion system, bacterial respiratory metabolism and bioenergetics, and the relationship between electron transport and antimicrobial susceptibility. His laboratory also develops small-molecule antimicrobials, immunomodulators, and host-directed therapeutic strategies.

Dr. Eshraghi leads an NIH-funded research program spanning fundamental bacterial pathogenesis through translational antimicrobial and vaccine development, including intellectual property arising from antimicrobial discovery efforts. He is also actively engaged in graduate and professional education, directing and teaching courses in veterinary microbiology and microbial pathogenesis and mentoring students and research trainees at multiple career stages.
