Gordan is a researcher, educator and clinician. Her research interests are in the area of caries diagnosis and preservation of tooth structure using minimally invasive restorative techniques through translational and clinical research applications.
Dr. Smallwood is providing care and supervising dental hygienists and dental students during their Marion County Health Department clinical rotations.

A 1974 graduate of South Dakota State University, she was one of just six alumni to receive this award in 2023.
