Senior Extramural Rotations

extramural rotations

For the final three semesters of the UF College of Dentistry DMD program, each dental student is assigned to a two-week extramural rotation at a community health center in the state. The aim of senior extramural experiences is to apply the principles of community dentistry, management, interpersonal relations, communications, prevention, professionalism and decision making in the clinical care of patients at extramural sites.

This clinical course emphasizes the integration of knowledge and skills necessary to practice dentistry efficiently and effectively in a real-world setting.

Upon return from extramural experiences, UFCD has found that the clinical development of DMD students has progressed, while self-evaluation and accountability are also enhanced.

All extramural rotation sites use calibrated UFCD courtesy faculty as mentors.
