Committee Composition
The committee consists of seven members: three full-time faculty elected by the Faculty Assembly, three full-time faculty appointed by the dean. The Associate Dean for Research will serve as an ex-officio member. The committee elects the chairperson and vice chairperson from among the members. For more information, please refer to the college’s Constitution and Bylaws.
Standing Committee Charge
As stated in the Constitution and Bylaws, it is the responsibility of this committee to stimulate interest in research by faculty members and students, review stimulus grant applications and to communicate to students and faculty members the availability of research opportunities. Additionally, this standing committee is to function in an advisory role to the Dean and the Associate Dean for Research and to identify mechanisms that will enhance the national reputation of the College of Dentistry in basic, applied, and clinical research.
Individual Faculty Member Responsibilities
Research Committee meetings are 1 to 1½ hours in length. In addition to attending meetings, members are required to review proposals, seed grant applications, UF scholar applications, professorship award nominations, research track applications, summer research student applications, research honors/high honors applicants, etc.as needed in between meeting dates.
Time commitment: Approximately one hours every other month for meetings along with additional time required to review materials through email outside of scheduled monthly meetings.
Schedule of Meetings
Unless otherwise noted, the Research Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every other month, from 12:30–1:30 p.m. in D3-39A. The Research Committee often collaborates electronically via email with decisions noted.
