Maggie Ribeiro Dasilva, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., was appointed the program director of the college’s Dental Clinical Research Unit, or DCRU, in June. She takes that role over from Marcelle Nascimento, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., who led the center from August 2019 until June 2024.
“I am confident that Dr. Dasilva will continue to grow the services the unit provides for our clinical researchers while maintaining a strong ethical view which is so important for the scope of clinical research. Dr. Dasilva has an extensive background in clinical research and is an excellent person to serve as a role model as well as a mentor in that space,” said A. Isabel Garcia, dean.
As program director of the DCRU, Dasilva is responsible for the overall management of the DCRU and will assist colleagues in the college with developing clinical research protocols and preparing Institutional Review Board, or IRB, applications. In addition to other duties, she will focus on ensuring dentistry clinical research projects are compliant with regulations and protocols relating to privacy and IRB, in addition to other areas of compliance. She is also providing guidance to faculty regarding appropriate practices to follow when developing and implementing clinical research projects and working collaboratively with other research groups within the college and throughout the UF research enterprise.
“I am pleased that Dr. Dasilva was willing to take on these responsibilities and I know that we’ll see continued excellence from the DCRU” Garcia said.
