Mara Karaiskou, D.D.S., M.Sc., joined the UF College of Dentistry in spring 2024 from Athens, Greece, as a visiting clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontology. Karaiskou’s focus is teaching predoctoral students in didactic and clinical settings and residents in the periodontology advanced education program. She also treats patients in the college’s Faculty Practice.
Karaiskou earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Semmelweis School of Dentistry in Budapest, Hungary, in 2011 and went on to complete an internship in periodontology from 2011-2013 at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Dental School, while simultaneously training in oral and maxillofacial surgery and periodontics at the 401 General Military Hospital in Athens for two years.
She then pursued and earned her master’s degree in periodontology from National and Kapodistrian University in 2016 and entered private practice, specializing in periodontology and implant dentistry.
Karaiskou has advanced knowledge and experience in MIS, Astra, Zimmer and the XIVE implant dentistry systems. She entered academia for three years from 2017-2020 as a clinical instructor in the Department of Periodontics at the National and Kapodistrian University, published several times through her master’s degree research, and has presented at a number of annual meetings on topics related to implant dentistry and periodontology treatment topics.
