RDS – General Dentistry Leadership Transition

After eight years of dedicated service as the director of the Division of General Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dental Sciences, W. Stephen Howard, D.M.D., FAGD, is stepping down effective April 25, 2024.

Howard made invaluable contributions to the department and college, both clinically and educationally having brought a wealth of experience from 25 years in private dental practice and 14 years as an educator.

“His leadership, expertise and unwavering dedication have greatly benefited our department, and we are immensely grateful for his contributions,” said Ana P. Dias Ribeiro, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., interim chair of Restorative Dental Sciences.

Scott Denton, D.D.S., steps in as the new director for the division effective April 26, 2024. Denton joined the UF College of Dentistry in 2021 as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dental Sciences.

“In his time with us, Scott has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise, serving as a team leader in Clinic 3A and as course director for various clinical and pre-clinical courses,” Dias Ribeiro said.

With approximately 20 years of experience as a general dentist prior to joining UF, Denton brings invaluable clinical insights to his new role. His experience as the director of patient care at LECOM School of Dental Medicine further underscores his capacity for leadership, she added.
