Congratulations to the 2022-2023 UF College of Dentistry Teachers of the Year and Excellence in Education award winners. These two award programs recognize the efforts of those faculty members who contribute to making our dental education programs some of the best in the United States.
Teachers of the Year
UFCD Clinical Sciences Teacher of the Year Alexandre Cabrera, D.D.S., is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Prosthodontics, Department of Restorative Dental Sciences. He joined our college in 2020 and his focus on didactic instruction for dental students.
UFCD Basic & Behavioral Sciences Teacher of the Year Joseph Katz, D.M.D., is a professor of oral medicine in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences. Katz is both a teacher and a researcher whose focus is in oral medicine and pathology.
These are UF awards that are determined by student votes each year and reward excellence, innovation, and effectiveness in either teaching or advising. Cabrera and Katz received a $2,000 cash award and a trophy, their names are added to a plaque in Room D3-3, and they were honored at a reception with UF President Ben Sasse in the spring.
Excellence and Sustained Excellence in Teaching Awards
Established in 2017, this program honors and celebrates faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching and clinical supervision at the College of Dentistry. These awards are open to faculty with significant contributions to advanced education.
