Gohel Appointed Chair of UF OMDS

Anita Gohel, B.D.S., Ph.D., has been appointed the new chair of the UF College of Dentistry’s Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences effective September 1, 2022.

“Dr. Gohel brings to the department a wealth of experience clinically, academically and in leadership roles, and I am confident in her ability to maintain and build upon the strengths and excellence of the department,” said A. Isabel Garcia, D.D.S., M.S., dean.

Gohel joined UFCD in January 2020, after four years at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. She is clinical professor in Oral & Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences, and serves as program director for the Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology Residency Program.  She is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, received her B.D.S. from Calcutta University in India, and a Ph.D. in oral biology and a certificate in oral and maxillofacial radiology from the University of Connecticut.

Gohel takes over leading the department from Donald Cohen, D.M.D., M.B.A., M.S., who is retiring on September 8, 2022, following 20 years with UF.

Gohel is an author of many peer-reviewed papers, and served as a both a director and president of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, and is currently serving as president of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. She was a commissioner for the American Dental Association’s National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards, and a CODA Review Committee member on Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Education.
