In October 2020, the college welcomed Téemar Carey, D.M.D., M.S.Ed., a clinical assistant professor in the UF Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Carey is providing didactic and clinical instruction for dental students and residents in pediatric dentistry, and providing oral health care for patients in the college’s Faculty Practice.
Carey earned a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, a master’s in education and a dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, both in 2015, and earned a certificate in pediatric dentistry in 2017 from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
From 2007 to 2011, Carey taught science and math at a junior high school and a high school in Nassau, Bahamas, before deciding to pursue her dental education. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the National Dental Association and the Bahamas Dental Association.
Before moving to Gainesville, Carey was on faculty at New York University’s College of Dentistry in New York City from 2018 to 2020. During her time there, she also consulted with the Ministry of Health in Nassau, Bahamas, where she served pediatric patients at a dental health center for three years.
