Welcoming New Faculty: Fata Moradali

Photo of Fata MoradaliFata Moradali, Ph.D., is a new research assistant scientist working in the research laboratory of Mary Ellen Davey, Ph.D. in the Department of Oral Biology. Moradali became a faculty in September 2019, but has been with the college since 2017, working as a post-doctoral associate in oral biology.

In 2004, Moradali earned his master’s in microbiology and biochemistry from the University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Tehran University in Tehran, Iran. His thesis was on the isolation and identification of antimicrobial compounds from Macromycetes fungi.

He then attended Massey University in New Zealand where he earned his doctorate in 2014 in molecular microbiology and genetics from the Institute of Fundamental Sciences. His thesis work focused on molecular mechanism of alginate polymerization and modifications in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

At UFCD, Moradali has been studying health/disease-associated oral microbiome and pathoadaptive mechanisms; the physiology/lifestyle of anaerobic pathogens; host-microbe interaction; and polymicrobial biofilms.
