UFCD Resident Dr. Austin Belknap Wins AAOMP Award

Congratulations to Austin Belknap, D.M.D., then a first-year resident in the UF oral & maxillofacial pathology program, for receiving the 2019 Waldron Award at the 73rd American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology annual meeting at in May in Miami, Florida. The award includes a $1,000 cash prize and is given annually for the Best Resident Scientific Poster Presentation. Of the 134 posters submitted from the United States and abroad, 68 were selected for the poster presentation and Belknap won first place.

For another “first,” this is the first time in the history of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, or AAOMP, that the recipient of the Waldron Award was a first-year resident. Bellknap recently started her second year of residency with UF’s program.

The UF College of Dentistry, overall, was well-represented during the meeting. Donald M. Cohen, D.M.D., M.S., interim chair of UF Oral & Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences was elected vice-president of the AAOMP. The grand opening session the AAOMP seminar was presented by graduates of UF oral & maxillofacial pathology program. The presentation included lectures by Nadim M. Islam, D.D.S., B.D.S., director of the oral & maxillofacial pathology program, and Indraneel Bhattacharyya, D.M.D., M.S., director of the UF Oral Pathology Division. Bhattacharyya also played a role in organizing the session.
