Welcoming New Faculty: Marianella Natera-Fernandez

Natera-FernandezMarianella Natera-Fernandez, D.M.D., M.D.S., joined the UF Department of Endodontics in 2017 and is serving as the endodontics predoctoral program director. Most of her focus will be teaching and she will also be providing endodontics care to patients in the college’s faculty practice.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Natera-Fernandez earned her dental degree in 1995 from the Universidad de los Andes and completed her endodontics advanced education from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 2017. She completed several internships and residencies in the interim, including the UF Comprehensive Dentist Program in 2009 and a UF program in Translational Clinical Research in 2010. In 2010 she also completed a fellowship at UF in endodontics.

Natera-Fernandez worked in private practice as a general dentist in Venezuela from 1995 to 2007, and as an endodontist in Metuchen, New Jersey, prior to coming back to Gainesville.

She holds memberships in the American Dental Education Association, the American Association of Endodontics, the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentists, in addition to other professional memberships.

Endodontics (from the Greek roots endo- “inside” and odont- “tooth”) is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp.
