Serving the homeless community

13 Breakfast on the Plaza Gold smallOn Nov. 14, the University of Florida College of Dentistry participated in “Breakfast on the Plaza,” an event organized by the Alachua County Coalition for the Homeless and Hungry at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza in downtown Gainesville, Fla.

“It was a wonderful event. We distributed 150 oral health care kits and discussed the importance of oral health with attendees,” said Jaana Gold, D.D.S., Ph.D., an associate professor in the UF Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science.

Participants included a variety of local nonprofit groups that work together to provide meals and information about social services to the homeless in the community. College faculty, staff and pre-dental students worked to share information about places the attendees can receive oral health care, and also share information about oral cancer.
