College of Dentistry Announces DMD Accreditation Status of “Approval without Reporting Requirements”

UF College of Dentistry received official word in February that its predoctoral dental education program had been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements” by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Approval without reporting requirements” indicates that the program achieves or exceeds the basic requirements for accreditation. The next site visit for the predoctoral program will occur in 2015.

The official statement from CODA is as follows:
The programs in dental education are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and have been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United Stated Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation can be contacted at (312) 440-4653 or at 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.

“There are so many people in our college who played a role in helping us achieve this success and I can’t thank you all enough for the sincere dedication and professionalism you showed during this process” said Dean Teresa Dolan.

CODA operates under the auspices of the American Dental Association and serves the public by establishing, maintaining and applying standards that ensure the quality and continuous improvement of dental and dental-related education and reflect the evolving practice of dentistry. CODA encompasses dental, advanced dental and allied dental education programs.

Dental education accreditation, initiated in the early 1900s, and conducted today by CODA is a peer review mechanism that includes the involvement of members of the discipline, the broad educational community, employers, practitioners, the dental licensing community and public members. All of these groups participate in a process designed to ensure educational quality.
