There was a whirl of boots, hats, kerchiefs and dollar bills during the two-day Dental Desperados Community Campaign, Sept. 24 & 25, which included a silent auction, a dunking booth and a voting contest to determine who would win a pie in the face, administered by Dean Terri Dolan.

The campaign started on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with an all-day silent auction. There was a great deal of participation, a room full of donated goods and services, plus voting pots where people could pay $1 to vote for their favorite candidate to receive a pie in the face the next day.

Even the Tooth Fairy took a turn in the dunking booth, taunting the crowd into paying for the chance to dunk him.

Dr. Henrietta Logan kicked off Thursday’s event in the Dental Courtyard by hopping into the dunking booth. She was followed by Dr. Boyd Robinson, Dr. David Stillwell, Jim Webb, Dr. Ken Anusavice, Dr. Larry Brock, Lee “Tooth Fairy” Mintz, Dr. Richard Lamont and the booth’s final dunkee was Dean Terri Dolan, nicely attired in a bathing cap and goggles.

One of the Thursday’s highlights was the finale of the Pie Voting Contest. Three top candidates, Dr. David Stillwell, Dr. Richard Lamont and Jean Sweitzer, battled it out in the Dental Corral for the honor of having a pie in the face, administered by Dean Dolan (with style and grace). Lamont’s laboratory coworkers made a valiant effort in his campaign but, in the end, Dr. David Stillwell took the honors.

Thank you, also, to Dr. Demetrick LeCorn and Dr. Haider Alzubaidi, who generously donated to cover the cost of renting the dunking booth.

Special thanks go to the campaign organizers for the college, Mary Bennett and Jacob Burks, and the members of the college’s Special Event Committee, who went above and beyond to engage the many people who donated time, talent, goods, services and money to make this a great campaign.

All proceeds for the event go to benefit the UF Community Campaign.
