UF College of Dentistry First Annual Impressions Program

UF College of Dentistry First Annual Impressions Program On Friday, July 11, the college hosted our first annual Impressions Program to expose underrepresented minority students to a career in dentistry. The all-day event was inspired by an initiative started in 2000 by the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) to provide participants with tools and experiences that may lure them to the profession and also help prepare them to become competitive dental school applicants.

Organized by UF’s SNDA chapter under the guidance of their faculty advisor, Dr. Abi Adewumi, the program hosted 32 participants and also the students participating in the Summer Learning Program.

Impressions included a keynote address from a college alumni, Dr. Demetrick LeCorn, a mini-course from Kaplan, and overviews of the financial aid and admissions process. Participants especially enjoyed the mock interviews, and the opportunity for hands-on experience such as tooth waxing, taking alginate impressions of each other and creating stone models of the impressions.
