UF College of Dentistry welcomes the ten students chosen to participate in the Annual Summer Learning Program from July 7 through July 18, 2008. The program, funded jointly by the Academy of Alumni and Friends, and the college, is coordinated through Student and Multicultural Affairs office.
The program offers Florida residents from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds and minority students an opportunity to experience the dental education profession. Participants produce hands-on projects in the dental simulation laboratory, shadow dental students in clinics, explore dentistry and its specialties with dental faculty and students, and receive one-on-one advising from an admissions officer.
The participants also benefit from networking with faculty and students in the college during the two-week program.
“Admission is very competitive and many past participants have gone on to become dental students at the college, said Dr. Patty Xirau-Probert, who administers the program. “Needless to say they are very proud to be a part of this and we’re thrilled to have them.”
So if you happen to see any of our Summer Learning participants in the halls during the next few weeks, welcome them to our college – and you may see them again one day soon!
