Oral Oncology / Oral Medicine Clerkship
FORMAT:
This clerkship is designed as a one-week participation course
centered around the activities of the Oral Medicine and Oral
Oncology Clinics at the University of Florida Health Science
Center. Activities include observation in the diagnosis and
treatment of patients with various benign entities of the oral
cavity, as well as cancer and AIDS. Other available activities
include hospital rounds and attendance at special Health
Center Conferences. An audio-visual library containing a
large volume of materials related to oral oncology - diagnosis
- medicine and therapeutics will be available to the participant
for self-paced study.
The instructors will attempt to tailor the clerkship to meet
the individual participant's interests or needs. If desired, four
hours of HIV/AIDS instruction may be completed during this
week.
TIME:
The course will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday and end at
5:00 p.m. on Friday. Check-in and Orientation will occur in
the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral
Diagnostic Sciences, Room D8-6 of the College of Dentistry.
The course is offered on a year-round basis approximately
45 weeks a year. One dentist is accepted for each week on
a first come basis.
INSTRUCTION:
Instruction will be provided by the faculty in the Oral
Oncology Clinic and through autotutorial materials in the
Clinic Audiovisual Library. Participants will accompany
faculty in patient diagnosis and treatment sessions and
many attend Health Science Center conferences and
rounds as well as observe other Health Science Center
diagnosis and treatment facilities.
