International Transfer Students

The University of Florida College of Dentistry does not accept international transfer students into the D.M.D. program. We encourage you to complete the dental education program in which you are currently enrolled and earn your dental degree.

To Practice Dentistry in Florida

There are two UF College of Dentistry programs which when successfully completed, afford internationally-educated dentists the opportunity to apply for licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Florida. They are:

1. Two-Year AEGD Program for International Dentists in Hialeah, Florida

Successful completion of this certificate program will allow the candidate to be eligible to take the Florida Dental Board Examination. Successful completion of the Florida Dental Board Examination is required to practice dentistry in Florida. Eligibility for dental board examinations in other states is not guaranteed by successful completion of this program and is dependent on state-specific requirements for licensure for internationally-educated dentists.

2. Four-Year D.M.D. Program in Gainesville, Florida

Successful completion of this ADA-accredited dental school program will allow the candidate to be eligible to take the Florida Dental Board Examination. Successful completion of the Florida Dental Board Examination is required to practice dentistry in Florida. Eligibility for dental board examinations in other states is possible with successful completion of this DMD program.

Dental Specialty Training

If you are interested in dental specialty training, you can apply to one of our advanced & graduate programs once you hold an international dental degree. These programs can enhance your knowledge and skills in American Dental Association-accredited dental specialties, preparing you to function as a dental specialist. The internationally educated dentists who complete the specialty training programs typically return to their home countries to practice dentistry.

Please be aware that the specialty training programs do not make you eligible to practice dentistry in Florida or to take the Florida dental license exam.

Admission with Advanced Standing

The University of Florida College of Dentistry does not admit students with international dental degrees to the D.M.D. program with advanced standing.
