The University of Florida invites nominations and applications for a visionary leader to serve as Dean of the College of Dentistry.
With 16 colleges, two academic health centers and more than 150 research centers and institutes, the University of Florida is one of the broadest-scope academic institutions in the nation and is one of only six public land-grant universities in the U.S. with colleges of Medicine, Law, Engineering, Agricultural and Life Sciences and Veterinary Medicine on one campus.
Established in 1972, the University of Florida, College of Dentistry is the only publicly-funded dental school in the state and ranks as a national leader in dental education, research and community service. The college is housed in the Dental Sciences Building located on the UF Health Science Center campus in Gainesville, Florida, with several practice sites throughout state. The UF College of Dentistry is nationally recognized for its oral health research, emphasizing infectious diseases in dentistry, bone biology, pain and neurosciences, and translational research to improve clinical and dental care. The dean is the chief academic and executive officer of the College of Dentistry who provides leadership and vision for the development and implementation of the college’s strategic future. In those roles, the dean has overall responsibilities for developing an effective collegial environment and plan that support excellence in patient care, teaching, research and service. More specifically, the dean oversees student admissions and services; curriculum development and implementation evaluates faculty and staff; develops and allocates the budget; represents the college in campus decision-making processes; oversees college-based research and outreach centers; and engages in fund- and friend-raising in support of opportunities to grow the college’s reputation, resources, and impact. In addition, the dean is responsible for maintaining strong working relationships within the larger university and with alumni, external partners, the academic and philanthropic communities, and other key stakeholders.
DMD or DDS preferred; terminal degree required.
- A track record of leadership in clinical care, education, research, and administration.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to listen and understand the needs of faculty, staff, and students; the ability to build strong relationships with internal constituents.
- Demonstrated success in enhancing and advancing patient care, education and research programs.
- Demonstrated success in securing private, corporate, or governmental support to advance the college’s missions.
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading a complex organization undergoing change.
- Effective decision making skills
- Solid understanding of dentistry clinical practice, procedures and scheduling
