Dolce appointed chair of orthodontics

dolceCalogero Dolce, D.D.S., Ph.D., has been appointed chair of the University of Florida Department of Orthodontics effective Oct. 25, 2013. He has served as the department’s interim chair since October 2012.

“Dr. Dolce is a positive, strong team player and has outlined a number of goals for the department including improving the orthodontics education in the pre- and post- doctoral arenas, supporting the department faculty’s efforts in securing research funding, and focusing on marketing strategies to increase patient referrals and expand the patient pool in the orthodontics clinics,” said Boyd Robinson, D.D.S., M.Ed., dean of the college. “I have enormous confidence in his ability to lead the department and I look forward the advances he will help lead for the department and the college.”

Dolce is a tenured professor who joined the UF College of Dentistry 17 years ago. He earned his dental degree in 1988 from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his certificate in orthodontics from the UF orthodontics program in 1993. He then returned to Buffalo where he earned his Ph.D.

In 1996 before joining the college as an assistant professor that same year. He is a Diplomate of, and an examiner for, the American Board of Orthodontics. He has served as the program director of the orthodontics graduate program since January 2011, is involved in clinical and didactic teaching, is active in the orthodontics faculty practice, and is also involved in research projects.

Dolce has also lectured and presented nationally and internationally, is actively involved in the profession, has authored book chapters and has numerous refereed publications.
