Congratulations to Luisa Betancur and Melvin Lopez, class of 2014, who both received a Proctor & Gamble Hispanic Dental Association Scholarship Award of $1,250.
Betancur and Lopez applied for these scholarships which are awarded on a national basis, are very competitive and are a program of the Hispanic Dental Association Foundation. They represent two of the 19 dental students who received HDAF scholarships nationally.
In the past five years, has distributed more than $200,000 in scholarship awards to deserving students, and $37,000 so far in 2010. One of the foundation’s objectives is to encourage entry of Hispanic students into the oral health field; the scholarships help recognize and support students who seek to advance their scientific and applied clinical knowledge in the area of dentistry to further their commitment to aiding and supporting the Hispanic community.
