A Great Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming Parade 2008This year’s UF Homecoming was a busy one for the College of Dentistry because, in addition to student activities, it also marked our alumni weekend for the Academy of Alumni & Friends (AAF). We sold out all 200 of our Dental Fall Weekend packages that included game, Growl, bus to and from the game, and a tailgate with Psi Omega, our dental fraternity. Homecoming Float 2008

Students in the Dentistry College Council Cabinet encouraged faculty and staff to be a part of their Homecoming plans and invited everyone to their float-building party on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Thursday and Friday proved to be wet but the party and parade went on, and the photos show that, as expected, neither wind nor rain can dampen the spirits of committed Gator dentists. If you look closely, a Tooth Fairy can be spotted riding on our float.Homecoming Float 2008

On Friday afternoon, the Dental Ambassadors assisted Dr. Boyd Robinson in taking members of the Development Advisory Committee and AAF board members on a tour of the newly renovated clinics.

A Saturday morning CE course rounded out the serious events and, from there on, it was time for everyone to simply enjoy being a Gator fan. More than a 100 people attended and enjoyed the pre-game tailgate which featured breakfast and lunch foods, refreshments and a live DJ.

And then, the clouds parted before the game started and the sun shone down on a clear Gator Homecoming victory. It was great weekend and thank you to everyone who helped make it great.

(A note from the Dentistry College Council Cabinet to our college)

Dentistry College Council would like to sincerely thank all students, faculty and staff who participated in this years Homecoming float activities!

A big thanks goes out to…

–the Deans office for their assistance in brainstorming and involving the entire college in the event.
–Dean Dolan for coming out Thursday night to help us decorate for a little while even after a long drive from Naples – and for helping us store our supplies until next years event which we know will be even bigger and better!
–Sam Brill for coming out to take pictures during decorating and Friday during the parade – in the midst of the rain!
–Lee Mintz for participating on the float in the parade as our “Tooth Fairy”
–Dave from Maintenance for lending a helping hand and offering his expertise
–for the many staff and faculty suggestions during the planning phase to help us finalize our theme/design
–the students who donated their time to make the float look fantastic!
–Dennis Hines and the Senior VP of Health Affairs for acquiring an on-campus location to decorate

We look forward to a larger turnout and an even more successful Homecoming week next year! The weather was unable to “rain on our parade!”
