Congratulations to Henry Young, D.D.S., B.S., who was appointed interim chair of the department of operative dentistry effective May 30, 2008. He will be responsible for managing the academic, administrative and fiscal affairs of the department, and supporting the professional development of department faculty and research activities.

Another key area of responsibility will be focusing on the DMD curriculum including the didactic, preclinical and clinical education program, and assisting in a smooth transition to the new clinical TEAMS model of education that launches on August 25, 2008.

Young joined the college of dentistry in 1981 as an assistant professor in prosthodontics and was promoted to associate professor in that department in 1987. In 2000, he moved to the department of operative dentistry where he served as an associate professor.

Young earned his BS in chemistry in 1973 from the University of Florida and earned his DDS from Emory University in Atlanta in 1977. Young spent four years in private practice in Lake Butler and Alachua, Florida, before joining the college.

In March Young was selected by the students as the 2007-08 Clinical Teacher of the Year.
